Research Centers in Greater Rochester

There are many research centers located throughout the Greater Rochester, NY Region, and several incubators and enterprise centers that support the development and growth of new companies.

Center for Emerging & Innovative Sciences (CEIS) is one of fifteen NYSTAR-sponsored Centers for Advanced Technology focused on developing and transferring technology to industry for commercialization. CEIS has developed a prominent network of researchers with proven records of accomplishment in the fields of electronic imaging, bio-imaging, and nanotechnology. Acting as a matchmaker, CEIS facilitates connections between industry partners and academic researchers to undertake a company-sponsored university research project with tangible technology deliverables.

Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies (CIMS) is an applied research and training center focused on helping manufacturers to become more competitive. CIMS capabilities and expertise include remanufacturing and resource recovery, systems modernization, sustainable systems, lean practices, and workforce training in these areas. Located on the campus of Rochester Institute of Technology, CIMS' world-class facility houses research centers, industrial programs, and an all-encompassing training program.

The Smart System Technology & Commercialization Center (STC) is a vertically integrated "one-stop-shop" for smart systems' device development and process manufacturing, coupling the College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering's preeminence in nanoelectronics R&D with STC's expertise in integrating computer chips with hundreds of mechanical devices. STC offers the largest array of world-class MEMS-related solutions in the industry, all under one roof. The 140,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art STC facility includes more than 50,000 square feet of certified cleanroom space with 150mm wafer production, complemented by a dedicated 8,000-square-foot MEMS and optoelectronic packaging facility.

The Cornell Agriculture and Food Technology Park is a 72-acre campus and research park located in Geneva, NY. It is the only research park in the world where food, agriculture and bio-based technology companies can located in close proximity to the research capabilities of Cornell University, and collaborate with world-class expertise at Cornell's Agricultural Experiment Station located on an adjoining site. Cornell's Agriculture and Food Technology Park's mission is to foster the creation, retention, and expansion of agriculture, food, and biotechnology research enterprises by fostering partnerships between the Experiment Station and firms seeking commercial applications of research discoveries related to agriculture, food sciences, and biotechnology.

Incubators in Greater Rochester

High Tech Rochester (HTR) is a non-profit economic development organization engaged in the creation, mentoring, and incubation of high-tech start-up businesses. HTR services include the operation of two business incubators, the Lennox Tech Enterprise Center and the Rochester BioVenture Center. Each center offers a variety of programs throughout the year designed to address the entrepreneurs' core business needs. High Tech Rochester also serves as NYSTAR's designated Regional Technology Development Center for the Rochester/Finger Lakes Region and one of nearly 350 Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) locations across the country.

RIT's Venture Creations Incubator is a 27,000 square feet incubator adjacent to the Rochester Institute of Technology campus. It was established to support the creation of new businesses at RIT and to foster experiential learning in entrepreneurship among RIT's students and faculty. Venture Creations' services include the evaluation of business opportunities, guidance on developing business plans, business mentoring, and facilitating access to RIT's faculty and labs.
